What if we imagine Genesis as an "in process", a captured in-the-moment visualization? Eden is a new series of paintings inspired by Genesis. It's nearly impossible to conceive of such enormous events from the inside, as though they were happening around us. But we are human beings of amazing facility and how we experience staggering events and issues begs the question, "Can we even go there in our minds?"

My context for these oil and cold wax paintings comes from exploring a mindset for processing giant questions with greater impact, such as finding the mental energy to tackle real world peace, to change our priorities and turn around our hatreds and fears, to truly conceive of the concept of radical love, tackle environmental change, combat world hunger and disease. For me, taking a granular view of gigantic issues begs the view of them from the inside out, makes me feel like a participant in the event  rather then an observer. To bring myself to a place of being involved in the wonder of it. It's more poetic, which always brings magic and transformation.

In Genesis earthly elements emerge and dissolve, bringing an abstraction to life in the process of becoming itself. The particles and power suggest places not fully defined but seeking some kind of coalescence. I try and try to imagine such power and in my search I explore color and motion looking for a place to land. Rich color fields built through layers of glass-like translucency and opacity create atmosphere and depth, while intuitive, gestural techniques allow movement and abstraction to unfold naturally across the surface. The paintings are full of freshness, energy, and beautiful color, inspired by my temple's sanctuary with it's magnificent, gleaming mosaic walls. These paintings exist as still moments within a larger, unfolding story. May potential become inspiration and may vision gently evoke conceptions of change.
