For many artists there may be moments of concern or impasse with your work. You may be returning after time away or feel a quiet loss of confidence in your own voice. You may wish for clarity, making it easier to move forward. The work may seem technically sound but falls short of more depth or presence. Perhaps you may have too many ideas without a clear thread. Maybe you have grown beyond your early work. Many may feel shaken by past critiques which may have been more swayed by a teacher’s personal taste and less by a sensitive ear toward your essential interests.

I offer a personalized, focused, more expansive one-on-one consultation including carefully honed questions to help you see the work, and your own vision more clearly. I draw upon on years of experience in studio practice, art education, critique, extensive art curriculum design, museum collaboration, and work in mental health and other healing settings. I have experience using and teaching  drawing media, oil paint, oil and cold wax, watercolor, acrylics, encaustic paint, monotype, monoprint, etching, collage and mixed media. Together, we clarify direction, uncover what is essential to you, and open a way forward.

This is not instruction. It is a broadly painted conversation, a comprehensive exploration guided by the right questions, toward a deeper way of seeing.

You come away with:

-A critique, expanded through composition, materials, culture, art history, personal message and more.

-Artist statements tailored for different uses, such as an art gallery or curator, a museum statement, or for schools.

-A sense of your personal art history, mission and direction.

-Advice addressing stumbling blocks when working in schools.

-Suggestions for your studio and studio set-up.

-Suggestions regarding time management.

-Recommendations about choosing mentors, teachers and classes at the right level.

-Suggestions about the next phase.
